Alex Kachan

MA, Pre-Licensed Therapist

My name is Aliaksandr Kachan, Alex for short.

Do you find yourself frequently overwhelmed with emotions? Are you finding it difficult to tell what is happening within you, until you are boiling over? How we navigate our emotional experiences influences so much of our day-to-day life, as well as our relationships with ourselves and with those around us.

When working with people I focus on three primary areas:

What does your relationship with your emotions look like? I focus on helping people explore how they relate to the variety of different emotional experiences that life throws at us and help you foster a positive relationship with this aspect of life.

How can we empower you? You are your own best specialist, so together we can explore ways to increase your sense of mastery of yourself and help you feel more confident in your ability to apply the skills you learn to your own mental health.

What does it mean to be “you”? Exploring what it means to be yourself, understanding your own values and your motivations can significantly increase satisfaction with life and the ability to feel comfortable in your own skin. We accomplish this by working on your sense of self.

In order to tackle these questions, I utilize a mix of techniques that I have learned as a result of my studies, experiences, and trainings. I focus on meeting my clients where they are at and find techniques and interventions that you will feel comfortable using. I primarily utilize a cognitive behavioral approach with an added focus on mindfulness, which has shown to produce positive outcomes in all aspects of a person’s life. I am trained in cognitive processing therapy to help individuals with trauma experiences and/or PTSD, and I have been trained in client centered approaches to treat substance use disorders (a mixture of CBT, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing). When working on the “bigger picture” questions about life and self-identity, I help my clients through a humanistic-existential lens and utilize skills from that approach.

Looking forward to meeting you!

I am supervised here at Soul Work Counseling by Janet K. Schlegel, MA, LMFT.
