Clinical Training

Supervised Clinical Training Site

Practicum | Internships | Postdoctoral Training Opportunities

At Soul Work Counseling, we view clinical training as more than “hours toward licensure.” It’s a foundational season in our professional careers—where clinicians move from doing psychotherapy by instruction to practicing therapy with discernment and clinical insight: grounded in ethical considerations, clinical clarity, and a conceptual stance that remains steady under complexity.

We welcome trainees who want to grow in both skill and clinical identity—in a supportive environment that values curiosity, collaboration, humility, and real clinical craftsmanship.

Who We Train

We offer training opportunities for:

  • Master’s-Level Students

  • Doctoral Practicum Students

  • Doctoral Internship Students

  • Postdoctoral Fellows

What All Trainees Receive

All trainees participate in a structured training experience that emphasizes clinical fundamentals combining the evidence based science with the “art” of psychotherapy.

Core Training Components

  • Exploring therapeutic foundations (clinical identity, stance, ethics, and the therapist’s role)

  • Clinical interviewing (intake structure, rapport building, risk screening, and diagnostic curiosity)

  • Case conceptualization (organizing complexity into a coherent treatment plan)

  • Group supervision & case consultation (receiving peer and mentor support, offering feedback and insight, seeking professional guidance)

  • Opportunities to present on topics of interest (teaching as a way of integrating knowledge and experience)

  • Peer community in-office (learning alongside other trainees in the same setting)

Additional Doctoral Track Features

Doctoral trainees will have opportunities to receive training in specialized psychological testing and assessment evaluations, including:

  • Child & adult ADHD evaluations

  • Adolescent and adult autism spectrum evaluations

  • Pre-bariatric surgery evaluations

  • Pre-surgical pain evaluations

  • General personality and cognitive evaluations

Doctoral Training Enhancements

Training Culture

Our training culture is collaborative, relational, structured, and growth oriented. We aim to help trainees develop:

  • Confidence in their assessment interpretations

  • Trust in their own clinical insight

  • Tenacity in their ability to think critically

  • Clinical clarity without losing the person in front of them

  • Assuredness that there are team members ready to assist

You will be supported in thinking deeply, asking better questions, and becoming the kind of clinician whose work is both competent and compassionate.
